Fast & Furious Racing

CONCEPT

  • There are many ~30’ high performance classes of sprit/A-sail boats that typically don’t have the fleet sizes to warrant one-design starts at most events (C&C 30, FarEast 28r, Farr 280, Farr 30 with sprits, Henderson 30, Lutra 30, MC31 and others).

  • These classes are close enough in speed and performance to reward boat preparation and crew performance more than just a rating (See the RATING COMPARISON WORKSHEET)

  • Having a narrow rating band (FAST 30 Rule) keeps competition tight and consistent over time

  • The heavy lifting has been done – the HP30 Class in the UK has proven the model (www.HP30Class.com). HP30 utilizes the IRC rating system and the FAST 30 utilizes the ORC rating system

  • Provisionally including boats such as the Melges 32, Flying Tiger 10, GP26 and others can help grow the class and provide more Fast 30 Class starts

  • Class organization gets more class starts and boats on the line resulting in FAST & FURIOUS COMPETITIVE RACING

APPROACH

  • Raise awareness, interest & membership amongst boat owners and sailors to support the class

  • Formalize the class organization with officers & technical committee

  • Finalize FAST 30 Class organization, Class Rules, Constitution (draft versions already completed)

  • Work to get class starts at events (and/or start with scoring FAST 30 boats in place in existing ORC starts)

  • Develop calendar of events for class series including a winter southern circuit (welcoming the HP30 Class to participate too)

  • Optimize & Grow
